EHRA Workshop - Maximising the Role of Civil Society in the European Human Rights Protection System

Deadline for enrollment extended to 19 January! The European Human Rights Association is organising a two-day workshop for members of NGOs on "Maximising the Role of Civil Society in the European Human Rights Protection System - Making better use of the ECHR and related mechanisms".
The workshop will be held in Strasbourg on 23 and 24 January 2014.

EHRA Summer Course: The ECHR in practice / Practica actuala a CEDO

The first summer course in Romanian on the practice of the ECHR organised by EHRA together with the West University of Timisoara and the National Training Institute for Lawyers will be held in Timisoara from 1 to 5 July.

New Protocol 15 amending the ECHR expected soon

     Draft Protocol 15 to the Convention, as approved last week by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will bring the following changes once signed and ratified by the States Parties:
-principle of subsidiarity and doctrine of margin of appreciation - express mention in the Convention Preamble;
-age limit for judges' mandates - extended to 74;
-relinquishment in favour of the Grand Chamber - no longer dependent on the parties' positions;
-time limit for introducing a case - reduced from 6 to 4 months;
-deletion of the safeguard clause concerning the 'no significant disadvantage' criterion.
